Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut claimed that Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis may move to the Union Cabinet to take over the education portfolio.

At a media briefing on Sunday (August 2, 2026) Mr. Raut said: “Discussions have taken place between Mr. Modi and Mr. Fadnavis I have good information. Prime Minister Modi has in mind that the country needs a highly educated, far-sighted and good administrator for the education department. At this moment, the person who can become such a good Education Minister in the country is Devendra Fadnavis. There have been discussions between the Prime Minister and Mr. Fadnavis in this regard, and Mr. Modi has suggested that ‘you come to the Centre’,” said Mr. Raut.

The Education Minister’s portfolio is an important portfolio that builds a strong generation of the country’s youth. The future of crores of youth depends on this portfolio, but unfortunately, today it is withering there, he added.

“Mr. Fadnavis is likely to be given charge of the Human Resource Development Ministry. This is one of the top five important departments in the Central Government. We also want the country to have a good Education Minister, but now it is up to him,” Mr. Raut said.

The speculation had begun when Mr. Fadnavis visited New Delhi during with the student protest at Jantar Mantar.
