Continuing its food safety enforcement drive, officials of the Food Safety Wing of the Department of Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) shut down the kitchen of Chairman’s Club at Sahakaranagar, in Dollars Colony in Bengaluru, for allegedly violating food safety standards and hygiene issues.
According to FSDA officials, the inspection was conducted on September 3 night based on the instructions of Health and Family Welfare Department Minister U. T. Khader.
Officials said that they came across major violations in the club’s kitchen, including storage of 40 kg of expired chilli and improper labelling not in accordance with FSSAI regulations on 5 kg of bread crumbs, among others. They alleged that highly unhygienic conditions were observed in the food preparation and storage areas, and the use or storage of unauthorised and prohibited artificial colours in food products. The club allegedly failed to follow the required food safety measures in the storage and handling of food products, including storage of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food products together.
These violated provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Rules, 2011.
While the department has seized all the expired food products, they have closed down the kitchen, and issued a legal action to the management of Chairman’s Club.
