Ahead of the upcoming Tamil Nadu general elections, Tirupati district administration has announced enhanced surveillance measures along its inter-State borders. Tirupati district shares a long border with Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district, featuring a network of national and State highways connecting the two States.

Tirupati District Collector S. Venkateswar even held a video conference meeting on Saturday with his Tiruvallur counterpart M. Pratap, who is also the District Election Officer, on this regard. The two discussed steps to maintain law and order in the bordering villages, curtailment of transportation of goodies, liquor bottles and cash, among others.

The meeting also discussed removal of duplicate voters from the electoral list, which was reportedly identified as a big menace in the bordering district.

As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) has been completed in Tiruvallur district, Mr. Venkateswar offered to initiate the process of removing duplicate voters once the SIR report is received.

Officials of the two districts laid special focus on identifying the anti-social elements and people with criminal background moving into and out of Tiruvallur during the election.

When Tiruvallur officials noted that several criminals with non-bailable warrants were residing in Tirupati, Tirupati Superintendent of Police (SP) L. Subbarayudu pledged to track down and arrest them once they were identified.
