Engineers have played a significant role in nation-building, sustainable development, water resources management, and technological innovation, said N. Kannaya Naidu, national expert in Hydraulic Gates and Handling Equipment and Advisor (Mechanical), Water Resources Department, Government of A.P.

He was speaking as the chief guest in a programme organised at Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education in Vijayawada on Monday (September 15, 2025), to mark the birth anniversary of famous Indian civil engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, which is also celebrated as the National Engineer’s Day.

Citing examples of his previous projects such as Nagarjuna Sagar, Srisailam, Thungabadra dam, and other irrigation works, he motivated students to uphold values of discipline, dedication, and responsibility.

Experts present at the programme recalled the historical contributions of engineers in irrigation projects and industrial growth and made special references to projects such as Himayatsagar Dam and Srisailam Dam, which stand as monuments of engineering excellence in India.

Siddhartha Academy president M. Rajayya appreciated the role of civil and mechanical engineers. Vice-Chancellor, P. Venkateswara Rao, in his address, emphasised the role of engineers in driving innovation, research, and technological advancement. He encouraged students to focus on sustainability, problem-solving, and interdisciplinary learning to meet the challenges of the future, while striving for ‘Viksit Bharat’ to make ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ a reality.

The event concluded with the reaffirmation that ‘Engineers are the builders of a nation’, inspiring students to strive for excellence, sustainability, and service in their professional journeys. The event was organised by Department of Civil Engineering of the institute.
