As many as 29 parks spread across 18 acres in the Nellore Rural constituency have been retrieved from land grabbers and secured with compound walls.

Several land parcels earmarked for park development in various layouts had been slowly and systematically encroached upon. The collective value of the threatened land was estimated at ₹400 crore.

When the issue came to the notice of Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, he warned the encroachers of dire consequences and simultaneously began mobilising funds to safeguard the sites.

After holding discussions with leaders and officials at various levels, Mr. Sridhar Reddy recently launched the ‘Chandranna Parkula Bata’ initiative and mobilised ₹7 crore to construct compound walls around the parks.

In the next phase, he said, the focus would be on developing public spaces and basic amenities. “The parks will become a favourite hangout for citizens as the encroachers have been driven out. In the second phase, we are installing a lighting system, improving greenery and developing a children’s play area,” he said.

Issuing a stern warning, the Nellore Rural MLA said those eyeing public spaces would be taught a befitting lesson.
