The Anti-Brewery Agitation Council at Elappully has accused the Elappully grama panchayat governing council of playing vote bank politics in the brewery issue.
The agitation council chairperson P.A. Pouran and general convener Pudussery Sreenivasan said in Palakkad on Saturday that the governing council members were trying to destabilise the ongoing agitation against the proposed brewery at Elappully.
They said the panchayat board members were trying to weaken the agitation against the brewery by ignoring the interventions of the Congress district and State leaders. “They are trying to brand the anti-brewery agitation as an anti-liquor protest,” said Mr. Sreenivasan.
They said the agitation council would not cooperate with a protest to be held at Elappully under the panchayat board’s leadership on Monday.
