Industrial and tourism growth in the southern belt of the district has increased passenger footfall at the Elamanchili railway station, and renewed demands for infrastructure upgrades and train halts.

As projects such as the Nakkapalli bulk drug project, the Rambilli naval base, the NTPC green hydrogen project, the Achutapuram SEZ and the proposed Nippon Steel plant take shape, passenger traffic at the NSG-5 station grew 11.1% to 6,80,050 passengers in 2025-26, with gross earnings of over ₹4.12 crore. Inward and outward passenger numbers rose to 6,04,115 and 7,05,780 respectively.

Representations made on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) said major express services bypassing the station caused inconvenience, and asked railway authorities to sanction regular halts for trains such as the Ratnachal, Garib Rath, Prasanthi, AP, Uday and Mumbai LTT expresses, restore the Puri Garib Rath stoppage, and build additional platforms for future traffic.
