East Godavari District Congress Committee president T.K. Visweswara Reddy on Saturday (May 2, 2026) demanded a fresh inquiry into the purchase of 362 acres of Ava wetland that was diverted for the housing scheme during 2019-23 in the district.

Speaking to the media at a press conference here, Mr. Viswaswara Reddy alleged, “The then State government bought 362 acres of Ava wetland for the housing scheme at ₹36 lakh per acre. However, the land owners were reportedly paid ₹14 lakh. The purchase of Ava land for the housing project is a scandal amounting to ₹86 crore, compared to both the official government market value and the actual price paid to the farmers.”
