Zilla Panchayat CEO Nandini K.R. has directed officials of the Education Department, Social Welfare Department, Backward Classes Welfare Department and Minority Welfare Department to focus special attention on students who have failed in all three phases of the SSLC preparatory examinations and improve their performance through the ‘Each One Teach One’ model.

She was speaking at the SSLC Preparatory Examination-3 result analysis and progress review meeting held in Mandya on Saturday. District and taluk-level officials of the departments concerned, along with supervisors of all hostels, attended the meeting. The CEO instructed the officials to prepare a plan to achieve at least 95% results in the main SSLC examination.
It was brought to the notice of the meeting that in the Preparatory Examination-3 conducted this year, 1,071 students out of 18,816 had failed in only one subject. Under the ‘Each One Teach One’ model, one teacher or hostel warden should be assigned to each such student so that they can receive individual guidance and pass the examination, she suggested.
The CEO directed that arrangements should be made to allow students coming from distant villages to study in the Awareness Centre libraries available in gram panchayats if conducting evening classes becomes difficult.
Ms. Nandini noted that while about 68% of students had passed in Preparatory Examination-1, the pass percentage increased to 86% in Preparatory Examination-3. She asked officials to further improve the results to reach 95%.
BEOs of K.R. Pet, Malavalli, Nagamangala and Srirangapatna taluks, which recorded results lower than the district average, were instructed to take necessary steps to improve performance.
Expressing concern over the number of students failing in various subjects, she pointed out that 1,071 students had failed in one subject, 570 in two subjects, 356 in three subjects, 286 in four subjects, 197 in five subjects and 212 in six subjects, and directed the BEOs to give special attention to these students.
The meeting also reviewed the results of hostel students. In hostels under the Social Welfare Department, the pass percentage increased from 69% in Preparatory Examination-1 to 85% in Preparatory Examination-3, with 370 students passing out of 435 and 65 students failing. In hostels under the Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Departments, 620 out of 689 students passed while 69 students failed.
