Two persons, found allegedly transporting ganja from Berhampur of Odisha to Hyderabad, were arrested during a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the Kacheguda Railway Station on Monday. The officials seized 10.85 kgs of ganja worth over ₹5.42 lakh from them.

The accused, identified as 18-year-old Madugula Arjun, a worker at a car service centre, and 20-year-old Vatti Srinivas, who runs a milk business, both hail from Ravirala village in Rangareddy district.

The duo had purchased the ganja from the Berhampur forest area in Odisha on September 21, by paying ₹30,000 for 10 kg, which they packed into seven separate bags. Their plan was to sell half of it near Kacheguda Railway Station and consume the remainder with friends in their village.

On Monday, they took the Konark Express to reach Secunderabad and then boarded an MMTS train to Kacheguda. Police intercepted them around noon from the platform.

During interrogation, they admitted to transporting the ganja, leading to the seizure of the contraband and two mobile phones.

Officials stated that both the accused have a history of substance abuse, and Arjun had previously been involved in two property offences too, under the Rachakonda Commissionerate.

A case was booked and a probe is on.
