Don’t politicise jobs to families of stampede victims: Vasan

Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Thursday said the government’s decision to offer jobs to family members of those killed in the Karur stampede should not be politicised.

In a statement, he said: “The [CBI] inquiry will establish the circumstances under which the public meeting was organised, including any other lapses. The death of 41 people in the stampede is a major tragedy, and the issue should be approached with a humanitarian perspective.”

Mr. Vasan also called for the framing and strict implementation of comprehensive guidelines for political party meetings to prevent such incidents in the future.
