DMK says its govt. fulfilled 80% of poll promises

The ruling DMK on Saturday (January 3, 2026) said it had fulfilled 80% of the promises made in its manifesto for the 2021 Assembly elections.

In a press release, the party said it had made 505 promises in the manifesto, of which 364 had been implemented, while 40 were currently under consideration by the government.

The party said it had been unable to fulfil 37 promises — including the cancellation of NEET and the declaration of the Tirukkural as a national book — owing to what it described as non-cooperation from the BJP-led Union government. “These can be fulfilled only with the support of the Union government,” the release said.

The DMK said that 64 promises could not be taken up for implementation due to factors such as local protests, non-cooperation, and an unconducive atmosphere. However, it noted that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin had also implemented several schemes that were not part of the manifesto, including the Puthumaipen, Tamil Puthalvan, and Naan Mudhalvan schemes.

The party expressed confidence that the Dravidian Model government would return to power for a second term with the support of the people. It added that an app and social media platforms had been launched to ensure that people’s views are reflected in the party’s manifesto.
