DMK opposing SIR to divert people’s attention from corruption charges: L. Murugan

BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Monday (November 3, 2025) alleged that the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu is opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls to divert people’s attention from the corruption charges levelled against it.

“Whenever there are allegations of massive corruption charges against the DMK, the party will rake up some other issue. That is why they are opposing SIR,” he told reporters in Chennai.

Mr. Murugan was referring to the Directorate of Enforcement’s (ED) claims of irregularities in appointments in the Municipal Administration and Water Supply (MAWS) Department, as well as allegations of irregularities in paddy procurement in the State.

He also said the SIR exercise “is the need of the hour” to ensure that genuine voters make it to the list and bogus entries and dual voters are removed.

Mr. Murugan said that in the past, the DMK had raised the issue of bogus voters and sought a revision of the rolls.

Even during Sunday’s all-party meeting, MDMK general secretary Vaiko had flagged the issue of bogus voters, Mr. Murugan said, adding that everyone must cooperate with the SIR exercise.

“The SIR exercise must not be politicised,” Mr. Murugan further said.
