BJP leader and Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan on Sunday alleged that the DMK had made several promises in the run-up to the 2021 Assembly election, but failed to fulfil them while in power.

He told journalists in Chennai that the DMK government had not addressed the demands of nurses, teachers, and sanitation workers, who had been protesting for the past few days.

In its 2021 election manifesto, the DMK had promised to increase the minimum guaranteed working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme from 100 to 150. However, when the BJP-led government at the Centre replaced it with the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G), which provides for 125 days of work, the DMK opposed it, he said.

Mr. Murugan added that the DMK would be unseated in the 2026 Assembly election and the National Democratic Alliance would come to power.
