Alleging “disproportionate” growth in the assets of BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s wife Anamika Gautam, the Congress on Thursday (October 16, 2025) said the ruling party leader must clarify the matter as it “appears to be a case of massive corruption”.

There was no immediate response from Mr. Dubey’s wife or the BJP to the Congress’s allegations. Mr. Dubey, in a cryptic message on social media platform X, said, “maaza aa rahe hain (having fun)”.

Citing a case pending before the Lokpal over the rise in Ms. Gautam’s movable and immovable assets, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said there was “no consistency” between her declared income and assets over the years.

“On May 24, 2025, a complaint was filed before the Lokpal regarding the properties of Nishikant Dubey ji’s wife. On July 24, 2025, the Lokpal directed Mr. Dubey to respond within four weeks,” Ms. Shrinate said, adding there was no clarity on whether a reply had been submitted or what action had followed.

Referring to the MP’s election affidavits, the Congress leader claimed that in 2009 Ms. Gautam owned movable assets worth ₹50 lakh and no immovable property. By 2014, her movable assets had risen to ₹1.03 crore and immovable assets to ₹5.53 crore. In 2019, the worth of movable assets increased to ₹3.72 crore while the value of immovable assets rose to ₹9.35 crore, taking her total declared assets to ₹13.06 crore.

“In 2024, her total assets jumped to about ₹31.32 crore,” Ms. Shrinate alleged, describing the rise as “staggering and disproportionate.” She demanded that the BJP and Mr. Dubey explain the source of these assets and also questioned the Lokpal’s transparency in handling the complaint.
