Commenting on the controversial video clippings of DGP Ramachandra Rao that emerged on Monday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told reporters in Belagavi that an inquiry would be conducted and disciplinary action will be initiated. “No high-ranking official is above the law.”

Women and Child Development Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar said the government would never tolerate any insult or injustice to women.

Meanwhile, urging the government to consider the act of Mr. Rao seriously, former Minister and BJP leader S. Suresh Kumar said that Mr. Rao has brought disrespect to the police, which raises suspicion on the department itself.

“In the past, the government had washed off its hands by sending him on compulsory leave for misusing his position in the gold smuggling case. It does not bring any honour to the government if it washes off its hands and sends him on compulsory leave this time too. If the government has to send the right signal to society, it has to take effective steps urgently. Otherwise the public may think that the administration is on compulsory leave.”
