With 23,747 criminal cases registered under the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate so far this year, Director General of Police C. V. Anand directed officers to intensify night patrolling, strengthen surveillance and use technology to improve crime detection and investigations.

During a review meeting at the Malkajgiri Police Commissionerate, attended by Commissioner B. Sumathi and senior officers, the DGP examined crime trends, progress of investigations, patrolling arrangements, road accidents, cybercrime and the functioning of specialised police wings.

According to figures presented during the review, the commissionerate recorded 18,778 cases in 2024 and 18,480 in 2025, while the number has reached 23,747 in 2026. The commissionerate also underwent reorganisation during this period, resulting in changes to police station jurisdictions.

Theft cases increased from 1,484 in 2024 to 2,196 this year, while cheating cases rose from 2,404 to 2,789. Cases involving hurt increased from 1,311 to 1,797 during the same period.

Road accident fatalities stood at 340 this year, compared with 308 in 2024 and 270 in 2025. The commissionerate also recorded 41 murders and 365 kidnapping cases in 2026 so far.

DGP appreciates detection of 17 major cases

The DGP appreciated the commissionerate for detecting all 17 sensational and important cases reported during the current year.

He particularly commended officers for solving the recent kidnapping and murder of a five-year-old girl at Villa Orchids, a gated community in Kowkoor, within 24 hours.

Referring to the incident, he stressed the importance of continuous surveillance and CCTV coverage in residential communities to prevent similar crimes.

The DGP also reviewed the theft of firearms from Army premises in Bolarum and the subsequent arrest of the accused. He directed officers to strengthen surveillance against gangs involved in house burglaries, including a Nepal-based gang operating within the commissionerate limits.

He appreciated officers for securing convictions in serious criminal cases, including those resulting in capital punishment, and emphasised that effective investigation and diligent follow-up were essential to securing convictions.

Focus on patrolling, technology and road safety

The DGP instructed Station House Officers (SHOs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to strengthen beat patrolling, particularly at night, and deploy adequate personnel in vulnerable areas.

He directed officers to effectively utilise the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), ensure timely updating of records and closely monitor investigations.

Expressing concern over road fatalities, he called for preventive measures at accident-prone locations, particularly in Keesara, Cherlapally and Ghatkesar, where officials reported an increase in fatalities compared with last year.

On cyber crime, officials informed him that approximately 10 to 11 cyber crime and white-collar crime cases were being registered daily. He called for specialised training for investigators and awareness programmes in colleges and gated communities.

The DGP also instructed officers to strengthen investigations under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, ensure timely filing of charge sheets and facilitate assistance and compensation for victims.

Police Commissioner Sumathi informed him that 235 additional posts were due to be allocated to Malkajgiri following the reorganisation of police commissionerates. The DGP also interacted with officers, received representations concerning their grievances and assured them that the issues raised would be examined and addressed.
