Panyam MLA Gowru Charitha Reddy on Monday performed ‘bhumi puja’ for the tank development works to be undertaken under ‘Jalaharathi’ initiative at Shakunala Thippayapalli village in Orvakal mandal.

Speaking after launching the works, Ms. Charitha Reddy said the government was taking various measures to conserve water resources in rural areas and enhance groundwater levels. She said that development works worth ₹1 crore have been sanctioned for the restoration of tanks, desilting operations, and initiatives to increase water storage capacity.

The development of these tanks will not only improve irrigation facilities for farmers but also help mitigate the problem of water scarcity in future, the MLA said. She added that employment opportunities were also being provided to rural labourers as the works were being undertaken under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGA).
