Thrissur District Congress Committee (DCC) president Joseph Tajet has asserted that the Congress is focussed on development, not controversies, and said the 35 votes secured by the Congress candidates in the mayoral and deputy mayoral elections stand as clear proof of public confidence in the party’s approach.
Addressing the media on Friday evening, Mr. Tajet said the Congress candidates received support even from councillors who were earlier fellow travellers of the Left, underscoring that development-oriented politics prevailed over allegations and disputes. “The Congress has no intention of chasing controversies. Our sole objective is the development of the city, and that is why the people of Thrissur entrusted us with the Corporation’s governance,” he said.
As part of efforts to equip councillors for effective governance, a workshop will be held at the DCC office on December 31. The camp will be led by former Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA) director P. P. Balan and will focus on strengthening administrative and developmental capacities.
Mr. Tajet said the Congress is committed to delivering the development and welfare initiatives that Thrissur missed over the past ten years. “It is with this responsibility in mind that the party nominated and ensured the victory of Niji Justin as the Mayor and A. Prasad as the deputy mayor,” he said.
He also pointed out that the Left and the BJP had repeatedly raised allegations and controversies against the Congress candidates during the election period, but voters chose to ignore them and handed over the reins of the Corporation to the Congress. “We accept this mandate in its true spirit and are fully committed to carrying out the city’s development in line with public interest,” Mr. Tajet added.
