Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on Monday launched a scheme to honour senior citizen couples who are above the age of 70 and are long-time devotees at temples. He handed over packages containing one dhoti, shirt, saree, blouse and other items including kumkum and turmeric to 200 couples on behalf of temples in the city.

He also inaugurated 12 dwelling units constructed at a total cost of ₹3.40 crore meant for officials of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department. The scheme under which 2,000 couples above the age of 70 will be honoured every year, was announced in the Assembly as part of the budget for 2025-26, said a press release here.

Minister P. K. Sekarbabu and Chennai Mayor R. Priya were among those who graced the occasion.
