Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan released ‘Aame Suryudini Kabalinchindi’, a Telugu version of the English book ‘Swallowing the Sun’ authored by Lakshmi Murudeshwar Puri, a former assistant secretary general of the United Nations, here on Saturday (October 11).

On the occasion, Mr. Kalyan said the book portrayed the power of women and that it was exemplary. He observed that Indian culture, tradition, and Dharma held women in high esteem, while recalling that the first book his mother gave him was Chivaraku Migiledi written by Buchibabu. Ms. Puri’s book reflected the true spirit of women’s empowerment.

The Deputy CM said book reading gives mental strength and broadens thinking and helps in developing maturity and understanding social issues better. He would mostly read books written by Leftist authors and nationalists, and got valuable insights into patriotism from various books.

Referring to Aame Suryudini Kabalinchindi, Mr. Kalyan said the depiction of the character Malathi showed the author’s powerful writing and her unique narrative style that keeps the readers deeply engaged. The NDA government was striving to introduce 33% reservation for women in legislatures, he said, speaking of the steps being taken for women’s empowerment.

Minister for Health Y. Satya Kumar, Ms. Puri, Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Balashowry, Avanigadda MLA Mandali Buddha Prasad, translator A. Krishna Rao, writer Kuppili Padma, and MD of Emesco Books Pvt. Ltd. D. Vijay Kumar participated.
