Delimitation and women’s reservation had no correlation, and the two issues were clubbed together [by the BJP-led Union government] with the intention of creating confusion and blaming the opposition, N. Ram, Director, The Hindu Group, said in Chennai on Monday.

Speaking on the topic ‘Big Win for Tamil Nadu! Defeat for Union Government!! How and Why?’ at a meeting organised by the Chennai Thinkers’ Forum, he said the Bill had certain in-built contradictions that the government could not explain in the Lok Sabha or in subsequent meetings. “Women’s reservation was used as a cover for delimitation, as many people, including [Congress leader] Rahul Gandhi, stated. That is true. Women’s reservation and delimitation have no correlation whatsoever,” Mr. Ram asserted.
