Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Namo Bharat train and Meerut Metro services on Sunday (February 22, 2026). This inauguration is part of the Centre’s initiative to expand regional rapid transit systems, aimed at reducing travel time, easing congestion and promoting sustainable urban mobility.

The Prime Minister will dedicate the entire 82 km Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, which is designed to provide high-speed, high-frequency connectivity between Delhi and Meerut.

He will also inaugurate the remaining sections of India’s first Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), including the 5 km section between Sarai Kale Khan and New Ashok Nagar in Delhi, and the 21 km stretch between Meerut South and Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh.

Namo Bharat Train and Meerut Metro Routes

With a design speed of 180 km per hour, Namo Bharat is India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System, connecting major urban centres such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar, and Meerut with Delhi at high speed.

Sarai Kale Khan, the corridor’s originating station, will be one of four Namo Bharat stations inaugurated. It is located as a major multi-modal hub, connecting Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, Delhi Metro’s Pink Line, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and Ring Road. The other three stations being commissioned are Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul, and Modipuram in Meerut.

Moreover, the Prime Minister will also inaugurate Meerut Metro services operating between Meerut South and Modipuram. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in India, the Meerut Metro will run on the same tracks and infrastructure as the semi-high-speed Namo Bharat trains, creating an integrated transport model that combines regional rapid transit with city metro services, PTI reported, citing officials.

Meerut Metro will stand as India’s fastest metro system, boasting a maximum operational speed of around 120 km/h and will cover the entire stretch in just 30 minutes, including all scheduled stops along the way.

Metro Timings

The Delhi-Meerut RRTS allows for travel from Sarai Kale Khan to Modipuram, to Bejajpul, and to Shatabdi Nagar, all within an hour. In contrast, the same trip by road takes approximately one and a half hours, depending on traffic conditions.

Services are anticipated to run from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on weekdays and Saturdays, and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Sundays.

Passengers will be able to use a single ticket for travel on both Namo Bharat and the Meerut Metro, with fare information still to be announced.
