A deadline was set to dispose of one lakh tonnes of processed garbage from the dumping yard in Anantapur by the end of December 2025 and to clear the entire legacy waste from the bio-mining site by the end of January 2026.

Over the years, the garbage collected from the Anantapur municipal limits had been dumped at the 10 acre dump yard and it was decided to clear the legacy waste and make use of the place for growing greenery and a park. The bio-mining works have started in July 2025.

Anantapur Urban MLA Daggubati Venkateswara Prasad is keen on clearing the dump yard of garbage and on his invitation, the Swacch Andhra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram and officials have recently visited the bio-mining site to take stock of the progress of work. Mr. Pattabhi Ram said they are taking up disposing of legacy waste which has accumulated over the years by spending crores of rupees.

In Anantapur, the bio-mining activity is being done in two phases to clear 3.30 lakh tonnes of garbage in the first phase and another 1.70 lakh tonnes in the second phase. Mr. Pattabhi Ram directed the private company that has taken up the bio-mining activity to complete the disposal of the already processed one lakh tonnes of legacy waste by December-end this year. “The processing of the remaining legacy waste should be completed by Sankranthi next year and the dump yard should be cleared of the entire legacy waste at the dump yard by the end of January 2026,” he said.

To make this possible, the Corporation has also decided to provide more machinery which will be available to the firm soon. “The dump yard will be developed as a green space and a park. To ensure that garbage does not gets accumulated again in the city limits, a waste processing plant will be set up permanently in the town,” he said. Two acres land is needed for the same and MLA Venkateswara Prasad has assured to make it available.

Meanwhile, Mr. Pattabhi Ram also made it clear that the firm that is presently taking up the bio-mining activity will be changed and works handed over to another one, if it does not meet the deadline.
