Cyclone Ditwah: Telangana to remain largely unaffected, four districts may receive heavy rain on December 1

Telangana is unlikely to see any significant impact from Cyclone Ditwah developing in the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Hyderabad centre. The system is moving slowly and is expected to affect mainly northern Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking to The Hindu, Dharma Raju, Scientist at IMD Hyderabad Centre said that Telangana will receive only minimal weather activity as the cyclone approaches. Light rain is forecast across the southern parts of the State for Sunday (November 30, 2025), followed by isolated heavy rainfall on December 1 in four districts namely Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet and Nagarkurnool.

“The cyclonic system is currently moving at about 8 kilometres per hour, which has reduced the likelihood of a stronger impact over Telangana. The IMD expects northern Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh to receive comparatively higher rainfall due to their proximity to the system’s path,” said Mr Raju.

He further added that rainfall activity is expected to taper off after December 1. Light showers may occur on December 2, after which conditions will turn dry across the State. 

Hyderabad and its surrounding areas for the next 48 hours will see generally cloudy sky. “Light rain or drizzle is very likely to occur in parts of the city. Mist or hazy conditions are likely to prevail during morning hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 29°C and 15°C respectively,” said an IMD bulletin.
