A 32-year-old habitual offender involved in a series of house burglaries in Ameenpur was arrested by the Cyberabad Police on Saturday, May 16.

The accused, identified as Mandla Shiva alias Yerra Shiva, a resident of Jillelaguda in Meerpet and a native of Nagarkurnool district, was arrested by the Crime Team of Serilingampally zone along with the Ameenpur police. The police recovered 45 tolas of gold ornaments, diamond-studded jewellery, 5,000 in cash, a scooter and an iron rod used in the offences.

The accused was involved in a burglary on the night of February 21 at a house in Gandigudem Colony under the limits of Ameenpur police station by breaking open the lock using an iron rod and stealing gold and silver ornaments. He later targeted another locked house in Bandamkommu locality during the second week of April and stole diamond-studded gold ornaments weighing over 45 tolas.

In another incident reported during the last week of April, the accused broke into a house in Beeramguda and stole valuable watches and petty cash kept inside an almirah.

Investigations revealed that Shiva had come to Hyderabad in search of livelihood and initially worked as a construction labourer under a mason. He later turned to property offences to support a lavish lifestyle.

Police records show that the accused was involved in as many as 24 property offence cases registered across Cyberabad, Malkajgiri commissionerate and Nagarkurnool district, and had previously been jailed multiple times.

Further investigation is underway.
