The two new civic bodies carved out of the expanded Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will each get major funding from the government towards works which need immediate attention.

Special Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration & Urban Development, and Special Officer for the three-newly formed corporations Jayesh Ranjan has announced this after convening standing committee meetings at all the three corporations. The meeting at the Cyberabad Municpal Corporation was also attended by Chief Secretary Ramakirshna Rao.

Speaking to the media after the meeting at the GHMC headquarters on Thursday, he said that a decision has been taken to allocate ₹500 crore each to Malkajgiri and Cyberabad municipal corporations in view of the six-month work season which would begin now.

Regular expenditure for the corporations, including payment of salaries, will be met from GHMC’s general funds up to March 31, as the accounts are yet to be divided among the three bodies.

Task Force

Mr. Ranjan has informed that a Task Force has been constituted under the Centre for Good Governance to finalise the financial and manpower redistribution and apportionment of assets and liabilities among the three corporations. The Task Force has expert members drawn from the committee constituted under the Finance department earlier to finalise the assets and liabilities between the two states at the time of State bifurcation. They will come up with a report within two weeks’ time, he said.

He reviewed sanitation, solid waste management, alternative sites for dumping yards, flooding issues, infrastructure projects, manpower requirements, public grievance response, and other issues.
