CPI(M) seeks CB-CID probe into deaths at Isha Yoga Centre

The Tamil Nadu State Committee of the CPI(M) on Friday (June 26, 2026) urged the State government to order a CB-CID probe into certain deaths at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore.

In a statement issued by State secretary P. Shanmugam, the party referred to the recent deaths of two persons at the centre. It said Karthik, 29, an employee from Villupuram, was found dead with injuries in the centre’s parking area last week, while Malarvizhi, 45, from Madathupatti in Tirunelveli district, was found dead in a toilet on June 22.

The party also referred to the 2022 death of Subashree, a woman from Tiruppur who had reportedly visited the centre for training and was later found dead in a well on the premises. It further cited complaints made over the years by parents alleging that their children had been “subjected to brainwashing” and kept at the centre against their wishes, as well as allegations relating to the cremation of bodies at the centre and other complaints, including those concerning narcotic substances, land transactions, and wildlife.

The CPI(M) alleged that because of Isha Foundation founder Jaggi Vasudev’s proximity to senior political leaders and government officials, investigations into such complaints had not been pursued effectively, an allegation it did not substantiate.

Seeking a comprehensive investigation, the party urged the government to direct the CB-CID to probe the recent deaths as well as the earlier complaints against the centre and establish the facts.
