The Madannapet police on Saturday (October 4, 2025) arrested a couple for allegedly murdering their seven-year-old niece by gagging her with tape and drowning her in a water tank at their Yakutpura residence.

The accused, Mir Sami Ali, 36, who runs a water plant business, and his wife Yasmeen Begum, 28, allegedly killed the child, on Tuesday (September 30,2025) at their house in Chowni, Yakutpura.

DCP (South East Zone) S. Chaitanya Kumar said that. “The motive stemmed from a family dispute. Sami Ali and Yasmeen Begum, the child’s maternal uncle and aunt, had longstanding financial disagreements with the victim’s mother.”

The officer added that the couple also suspected that their own daughter, who died of illness last November 2024, had fallen sick due to alleged black magic performed by the victim’s mother.

“Tensions escalated after Ali transferred ownership of a house from his father by paying part of the amount owed to the complainant, leaving the balance unsettled. Frequent visits by the complainant and her children reportedly fuelled resentment, leading the couple to plan and execute the murder,” explained the DCP.

On the day of the incident, when the complainant briefly stepped out of the house, the couple found an opportunity to carry out their plan between 7.20 p.m. and 7.40 p.m.

The two were arrested on Saturday (October 4, 2025) at Chandra Nagar, Rein Bazaar, from the house of Yasmeen Begum’s mother.
