A 29-year-old construction worker died after jumping off the Nayandahalli flyover in the Byatarayanapura police limits on Monday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Prasanjit Das, who had been living in Mysuru for the past three months and working as a construction labourer.

According to the police, Das, along with his friend Mithun, had travelled to Bengaluru and was heading towards Whitefield. From there, he was reportedly planning to travel to his hometown in West Bengal. However, around 3.30 p.m., while travelling in an autorickshaw, Das suddenly asked the driver to stop and jumped off the flyover.

He sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed.

During preliminary inquiry, Mithun told the police that Das had been showing signs of suicidal tendencies for some time. His site in-charge, who was aware of his mental distress, had even advised him to return home.

The Byatarayanapura police have registered a case of unnatural death.

(Those having suicidal tendencies can call Arogya Sahayavani ph: 104 for assistance).
