Former Haryana Chief Minister and the Leader of Opposition in Assembly, Congress’s Bhupinder Singh Hooda, on Tuesday (August 11, 2026) said the party would corner the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in the monsoon session of the State Assembly over poor law and order, rising organised crime and tax hikes based on property tax and collector rates in the State.
“We will submit a calling attention motion during the assembly session, to seek answers from the government regarding the breakdown of law and order, rising organized crime and tax hikes based on property tax and collector rates,” said Mr. Hodda, addressing a press conference in Chandigarh.
He said the Congress MLAs will also move motions in the Assembly to raise issues surrounding waterlogging in urban and rural areas due to rains, compensation for farmers, demands of electricity department employees, the privatisation of power services in Gurugram and the grievances of guest teachers, sanitation workers and other staff.
“The Congress would move an ‘adjournment motion’ as well to discuss the alleged scams involving IDFC Bank, AU Small Finance Bank, etc in the session,” he said.
Mr. Hooda accused the BJP government for being insensitive towards farmers. “The government has failed to lift the full stock of urea and other fertilizers allocated to Haryana by the Centre. The Centre had allocated 9.59 lakh metric tonnes of urea to Haryana up to August, yet the government has lifted only 8.14 lakh metric tonnes. Similarly, 2.53 lakh metric tonnes of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) were allocated, yet the government lifted only 1.15 lakh metric tonnes. This implies the government intends for farmers to face hardship by having to stand in long queues for fertilizer,” he said.
On the issue of Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) canal, the center of a decades-long water-sharing dispute between Punjab and Haryana, Mr. Hooda said, “The incumbent Chief Minister of Haryana remains frequently active in Punjab, yet never raises the matter of the SYL canal while he is there. Ministers from the Centre regularly visit and announce decisions regarding the transfer of water from Haryana to Rajasthan via pipeline, but no one speaks about securing Haryana’s rightful share of water from Punjab.”
Mr. Hooda announced that the Congress party will hold a protest demonstration on August 19 regarding the demand for the regularisation of ‘Haryana Kaushal Rozgar Nigam’ workers and other issues. “During the 2024 assembly elections, the BJP had announced the regularisation of 125,000 ‘Kaushal’ workers to garner their votes. However, even after nearly two years, these contractual employees have not received any law or official notification regarding their regularisation,” he alleged.
