Activists of the Congress and the Youth Congress staged protests against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at different locations on Saturday (October 11), a day after party working president and Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil was allegedly assaulted by the police at Perambra in Kozhikode.

Youth Congress workers staged a sit-in at Chulli near Mattanchery by painting their clothes black. The protesters were taken into custody and removed by the police from the spot before the Chief Minister arrived there to inaugurate the Mattanchery terminal of the Water Metro. Congress workers staged a protest at the Ro-Ro jetty in Fort Kochi, while Youth Congress members tried to jump in front of the Chief Minister’s convoy as it reached near St Teresa’s College. All the protesters were detained by the police.

The city was under heavy police surveillance, anticipating protests by the Congress against the Chief Minister.
