Telangana Congress MLC Balmoor Venkat met Movie Artists Association (MAA) president Vishnu Manchu on Saturday and lodged a formal complaint demanding action against actor Srikanth Iyengar for making objectionable and indecent remarks about Mahatma Gandhi on social media.
In his complaint, Mr. Venkat urged that Srikanth Iyengar’s MAA membership be cancelled, stating that such comments against the Father of the Nation were unacceptable and had deeply hurt public sentiment. He appealed to senior members of the Telugu film industry to speak out and condemn such acts. Mr. Vishnu Manchu and MAA treasurer Shiva Balaji assured that the association would take the issue seriously. “The matter will be discussed in the MAA committee, and appropriate action will be taken,” Shiva Balaji said.
Mr. Balmoor Venkat said that artistes carry a social responsibility to uphold the values of truth and non-violence that Mahatma Gandhi stood for, and that disrespectful remarks against national icons must not go unpunished. On Saturday,a police complaint was filed against the actor by Mr. Balmoor.
