The prices of agricultural produces have fallen since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, failing to keep his promise to double farmers’ income, said Maharashtra Congress President Harshwardhan Sapkal during a rally — named ‘Asud Morcha’ — organised in Maharashtra’s Nanded district on Tuesday (June 23, 2026).

“The prices of agricultural products have dipped constantly. Mr. Modi has bowed down to America and mortgaged his self-respect and doing whatever U.S. President Donald Trump tells him to do,” said Mr. Sapkal adding that Mr. Modi and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have nothing to do with farmers and youth.

Mr. Sapkal led the rally highlighting the farmers’ crisis. Several Congress leaders, including Nanded North District Congress Committee President Ravindra Chavan, Nanded South District President Vitthal Pawade, and other party functionaries were present.

The Maharashtra Congress chief also emphasised on the promises made by Mr. Modi during 2014 elections and said that he had committed to providing one and a half times the price of agricultural products, double the income of farmers, build 100 smart cities, provide 2 crore jobs every year, and that petrol-diesel would be sold at ₹40 per liter and gas cylinders at ₹400. However, Mr. Modi came to power and later forgot everything, Mr. Sapkal added.

“BJP government is making the ownership titles of farmers land in the name of Adani and Ambani, stealing from the farmers. Government is not working for the Bahujan Samaj, the poor and farmers but only for Adani and Ambani. They are trampling on democracy and the Constitution,” he said.

He also took a potshot at CM Fadnavis, calling him “so-called divine power”, who is unable to resolve the problems of farmers, but able to break the opposition parties, Mr. Sapkal said.
