Confident Group started as a real estate firm in 2006 in Bengaluru and has a wide footprint in Bengaluru, Kerala, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The group has completed over 210 residential, commercial, and resort projects across the three markets in its two decades of business. The Group claimed to have served over 2.31 lakh customers.

The group’s chairman, C.J. Roy, is credited with being one of the first movers into Sarjapur on the southeastern periphery of the city and turning it into a thriving real estate market.

Before the boom in the area, the group had acquired a land bank of over 300 acres. According to the Group’s website, it has to date built 28 residential projects and has nine upcoming projects in the Sarjapur area alone, where they run a school. They have developed two commercial properties in the Sarjapur area. It has developed several projects in the South Eastern periphery of the city, including Electronics City and Attibele. The group had now shifted its focus to North Bengaluru, where they had multiple projects in Devanahalli and Yelahanka, among other areas.

The group has till now completed 46 apartments, and 11 are upcoming in Bengaluru. The group has also developed 11 commercial properties, two resorts, and a golf course in Bangarpet. Sources said that the group had acquired land for developing another golf course and villa project in Bagepalli as well.

Projects in Kerala

Confident Group had a larger footprint in Kerala, where they have developed a total of 76 projects across Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kottayam.

The group had recently expanded to Dubai, where they have developed five projects. Mr. Roy and his family had, in fact, shifted base to Dubai and were staying there. Mr. Roy used to make brief visits to Bengaluru and Kerala on business trips, sources said.

The Confident Group had recently diversified into infrastructure, retail, entertainment and hospitality.

C.J. Roy’s death sends shock waves in Kerala

The news of the alleged suicide of prominent builder C.J. Roy has sent shock waves across Kerala, particularly in Kochi, where Confident Group has delivered numerous residential projects.

His death coincides with the 20th anniversary of Confident Group. The news has left the company’s staff at its Kochi headquarters devastated.

Reportedly, Mr. Roy founded Confident Group after a failed partnership with another construction company in Kerala. His rise was almost meteoric since he established Confident Group in 2006, at a time when the world was grappling with a near economic recession.

He soon became a showman of sorts, turning the company into a household name by sponsoring several popular television shows and producing or co-producing multiple films. Beyond real estate, Mr. Roy invested in sports, hospitality, entertainment, education, aviation, and international trade. His collection of luxury cars, including Rolls Royce, along with his ownership of a helicopter, added to his larger-than-life persona.

Although his family originally hailed from Chavakkad in Thrissur district in Kerala, Mr. Roy was born and raised in Bengaluru and completed his education abroad.

His wife, Lini Roy, and children Rohit Roy and Riya Roy serve as directors of the company, with Mr. Rohit overseeing operations in Dubai.
