In a bid to bring transparency in the anti-corruption institution, Congress MLC Ramesh Babu has urged the State government to come up with a legislation mandating the Lokayukta and the Upalokayukta and other government officers serving in the Lokayukta institution to declare their assets and liabilities annually.

Stating that maintaining transparency in the Lokayukta is important, the legislator in his letter to Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H.K. Patil said that it is pertinent to bring a legislation to make declaration of assets and liabilities of the Lokayukta and the Upalokayukta. He pointed out that High Court judges were already declaring their assets and liabilities.

He further pointed out that the Lokayukta had not presented its annual report before the legislature between 2017 and 2021, and that it had come to his notice since it had not been placed in the Legislative Council.
