Online fraudsters duped a college lecturer in Davangere, in Karnataka, of around ₹14 lakh, by making a false promise of high return on investment.

In a complaint to the Cyber, Economic offences and Narcotic police station, the 52-year-old victim said that some strangers had included his name in a Telegram group. Some persons in the group convinced him that he would get higher returns if he invested in stock trading and assured him of assistance. He started depositing money in stages to the accounts mentioned in the group.

However, there were no returns. After a few days, he realised that he had been duped. He filed a complaint with the police.
