Collector urges development of vacant lands, improvements in sanitation in Ongole

Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu directed Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) officials to use unused vacant lands near Oota Cheruvu (also known as Voora Cheruvu) area during a surprise visit on Wednesday (May 13, 2026) morning.

He inspected sanitation management and unused corporation sites within the OMC limits, and instructed officials to formulate plans to develop these places in a way that would benefit the people. He expressed dissatisfaction with the sanitation management in the area and instructed the staff to improve waste management and raise satisfaction levels among local residents.

The Collector visited the windrow composting unit at Kothavmamidipalem in the city and inspected the process of converting organic waste into fertiliser. He asked the managers for details regarding the process. Later, he visited the garbage collection centre and instructed the municipal officials to ensure that the centres were properly managed.

Mr. Raja visited Gandhi Park and inspected its management. He instructed the municipal officials to complete the walking track that is under construction as soon as possible. He also inspected the Sulabh Complex coming up next to the PVR School and instructed the staff to complete the work as soon as possible.

Later, the Collector inspected the municipal site at Addanki bus stand, the old vegetable market site and another municipal site opposite Sri Bapuji Complex. He instructed the OMC staff to pay special attention to sanitation management in the city.

OMC in-charge Commissioner Rambhupal Reddy, Municipal Engineer Esaiah, Municipal Health Officer (MHO) Vaishnavi, and other municipal officials were present.
