Collector V. R. Subbulaxmi has declared a local public holiday on May 15 for the annual `Sirasu’ festival of Arulmigu Gangaiamman Temple in Gudiyatham town in Vellore.

The Sirasu (head) festival is held annually on the first day of the Tamil month, Vaikasi. Accompanied by Superintendent of Police (SP) U. Sivaraman, Ms. Subbulaxmi conducted a preparatory meeting for the festival at the Collectorate to discuss crowd management and adequate precautionary measures for the festival.

As per plan, specific routes with makeshift shelters will be created to allow devotees to view the festival in the town. Adequate drinking water facilities, washrooms, sanitation and health help desks will be created. Temporary shops and giant wheel rides will be prohibited for the festival to prevent overcrowding.

As part of surveillance, CCTV cameras will be installed along the route of the festival. Adequate police personnel will be deployed. Uninterrupted power supply and additional bus services will be provided for the festival.
