World-class cancer care facilities will be available under one roof in central Kerala with the commissioning of the new building complex of the Cochin Cancer Research Centre (CCRC), constructed at a cost of ₹449 crore.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the facility on Monday. Health Minister Veena George and Industries Minister P. Rajeeve will be present on the occasion.

The CCRC will be a valuable addition to the cancer care landscape of Kerala, which already boasts two major premier cancer care institutions in the public sector—the RCC in Thiruvananthapuram and MCC in Thalassery.

The CCRC will provide advanced and high-quality cancer care, marking a significant milestone in Kerala’s efforts to establish the best of cancer treatment and research in the State. The facility will be a source of great relief to hundreds of cancer patients in central Kerala who would not have to travel far to access care.

The CCRC has been developed on 12.63 acres within the Kalamassery Medical College campus, comprising nine buildings with a total built-up area of 6.3 lakh square feet.

The new building complex has 16 elevators, sophisticated and modern operation theatres, and parking facilities for 550 vehicles. It houses 12 fully equipped operation theatres designed for complex surgeries, including one reserved exclusively for future robotic surgical procedures.

Cancer research

The CCRC will also place a huge thrust on cancer research in the State, with a 10,000 square feet area allocated exclusively for research activities.

The new complex is equipped with sophisticated facilities for scanning, X-ray, radiation therapy, and other critical services, integrated with AI-led technologies.

It is the first hospital building in Kerala to receive EDGE certification. All current power requirements of the building will be met through solar energy, making it a green building that is 25% carbon-neutral. It also hopes to attain full carbon neutrality by 2050, aligning with the State government’s aspirations for the same.
