The Indian Coast Guard (ICG), Maritime Rescue Sub- Center, Kochi, on Wednesday located and rescued a fisherman who had gone missing from a fishing boat on Monday night.

The incident happened nearly 27 km off the coast of Kochi. The fisherman, Ranjumoni Sonowal, 40, was adrift at sea without food and water for about 36 hours, before ICG ship Arnvesh located him.

Mr. Sonowal, a crew member of a Tamil Nadu-registered fishing vessel, went missing while the boat was returning after fishing.

An aerial sortie by a Coast Guard aircraft was also launched to augment the search efforts. The rescued fisherman was provided immediate first aid onboard by Coast Guard personnel and shifted to a hospital for further medical examination and treatment, according to a communication.
