Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said rapid modernisation and urbanisation would pose new challenges in the future, and the State Government was working with a long-term vision to transform Hyderabad into a traffic-free and signal-free city.

Addressing a Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting, the Chief Minister said the government is planning a three-level transport model comprising underpasses, surface corridors and elevated structures to streamline traffic movement across the city.

Mr. Reddy observed that road expansion alone would not solve traffic congestion and emphasised the need to develop a comprehensive multi-transport system. He said that the government is also establishing multi-level parking facilities in different parts of Hyderabad to overcome parking-related issues.

The Chief Minister explained that the State Government has prepared plans to develop Telangana in three distinct zones under the “CURE, PURE and RARE” model. He said the area within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), termed as the CURE zone, has been identified as a service sector hub. The PURE zone, located between the ORR and the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), has been earmarked for manufacturing and industrial development. The RARE zone beyond the RRR has been designated as an agriculture-focused sector.

He further stated that the government has unveiled the “Telangana Rising-2047” Master Plan aimed at ensuring the State’s integrated and sustainable development.

On urban rejuvenation, the Chief Minister said the Musi Riverfront project would be developed while integrating Telangana’s cultural heritage and identity.

As part of green mobility initiatives, Mr. Revanth Reddy said electric buses are being introduced in the RTC fleet in Hyderabad. He added that autorickshaws operating within the Core Urban Region would be retrofitted free of cost and converted into electric vehicles to promote eco-friendly transportation in the city.

The meeting was attended by Committee Chairperson Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy, MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy, other committee members, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and senior officials from the State and Central governments.

Senior officials gave a detailed presentation to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on various urban issues concerning the city.

Officials made a PowerPoint presentation explaining the ongoing initiatives related to drinking water supply, urban development and the Musi River rejuvenation project.
