CITU petitions ILO over ‘suppression of workers’ rights by Centre and Uttar Pradesh governments’

The Delhi State Committee of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has complained to the International Labour Organization (ILO) about the Union and Uttar Pradesh government’s complicity in violations of workers’ fundamental rights and the assault on trade union rights in the industrial regions of Noida and Greater Noida.

The CITU, in its complaint to the ILO’s Committee on Freedom of Association (CFA), has raised concern over the “grave, widespread, and systematic violations” of freedom of association, right to organise, right to collective bargaining and right to peaceful assembly. The CITU urged the ILO to admit its complaint under the “Freedom of Association” procedure and hold that the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh Government are in violation of fundamental ILO principles.
