In a bid to improve road infrastructure and enhance citizen safety, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has launched an initiative to identify and upgrade the city’s top 100 critical roads.
M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner, GBA, held a review meeting on Wednesday with the Chief Engineers of all city corporations and explained the action plan.
Each zonal chief engineer will shortlist 10 key roads in their jurisdiction, drawing from citizen feedback on issues such as potholes, damaged footpaths, inadequate lighting, flooding, and accident-prone black spots.
Speaking on the initiative, Mr. Rao emphasised that the focus will be on long-term, durable solutions rather than temporary repairs. “Any work carried out by BWSSB or Bescom on these roads will require GBA approval to ensure coordinated planning and execution,” he said.
To maintain transparency and accountability, the authority has planned weekly review meetings to monitor progress on these critical roads. The meeting was attended by all development commissioners, chief engineers of the corporations, and other officials concerned.
