A pregnant woman, who was on her way to the hospital, delivered her baby on the roadside in Vijayawada on Sunday (August 23, 2026). The Circle Inspector of Satyanarayanapuram police station, S.V.V. Lakshminarayana, noticed the pregnant woman suffering from labour pains in an auto and asked women traveling on the road to help her. A group of women surrounded the pregnant woman and assisted her in delivering the baby on the roadside near the Ajitsingh Nagar flyover, in the NTR Police Commissionerate.

“When I was on my way to the police station, I saw a woman struggling with labour pains in an auto rickshaw. The auto driver panicked and fled upon seeing the woman in distress. I stopped my vehicle, helped her get down, and asked the women nearby to assist her,” Mr. Lakshminarayana said.

“Within no time, she delivered a baby boy, and both are safe. I then arranged for an ambulance and transported the mother, baby, and the grandmother (the patient’s attendant) to Government General Hospital (GGH),” the CI told The Hindu.
