Medicover Women and Child Hospitals, Hyderabad, has launched a dedicated Growth and Childhood Obesity Clinic, bringing paediatric and endocrine specialists together to focus on early detection, prevention and structured intervention.

Doctors associated with the initiative pointed out that studies indicate nearly 20 to 25% of urban schoolgoing children in India are either overweight or obese, while a significant number also show poor growth velocity linked to nutritional deficiencies, hormonal imbalances or sedentary lifestyles. Early-onset obesity can result in long-term metabolic, cardiovascular and psychosocial complications.

The clinic was inaugurated in the presence of senior child health experts, with Usha Rani T, President-Elect of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) Twin Cities chapter. “We are increasingly seeing children grow heavier but not taller. Paediatricians, parents and schools need to work together to build healthier habits from early childhood and prevent future disease,” she said.
