The Karnataka government has approved the upgradation of community and primary health centres at five locations across Kalaburagi district to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and district in-charge Priyank Kharge said on January 7.

Mr. Kharge said that the existing 30-bed Community Health Centres (CHCs) at Kalagi and Yadrami, both taluk headquarters, have been upgraded to 50-bed facilities. In addition, the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) at Ijeri in Jewargi taluk and Farhatabad and Hiresavalagi villages in Kalaburagi taluk have been upgraded to 30-bed Community Health Centres.

He said Kalagi and Yadrami, being taluk centres, required expanded healthcare facilities to cater to the growing patient load. Ijeri, Farhatabad and Hiresavalagi were emerging villages with increasing population, making it necessary to upgrade the existing PHCs into CHCs to meet future healthcare demands.

Mr. Kharge said he had written to Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao seeking upgradation of these health institutions, and the proposal was approved promptly. He described the Health Minister’s response as significant in improving access to quality healthcare for the people of the district.

Stating that the State Government was fulfilling its assurances to the people of Kalaburagi, Mr. Kharge said several steps had been taken to bring about substantial improvement in the health sector, including the establishment of new health facilities and the upgradation of existing ones in line with public demand.
