Centre for Liberty (CFL) Chairman A.B. Venkateswara Rao alleged serious financial irregularities in procurements done by the A.P. Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL).

In a complaint which will be submitted to the A.P. Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) here on Thursday, Mr. Venkateswara Rao stated that excess payments for transformers caused a total avoidable loss of approximately ₹14.65 crore, and the SPDCL awarded contracts to specific vendors on nomination basis instead of an open and transparent tender process.

Mr. Rao also alleged the utility paid significantly higher prices than neighbouring States in the purchase of Star-2 transformers and ordered expensive Star-5 transformers for agricultural use, which provides no benefit for agricultural power supply patterns.

He requested the APERC to disallow those costs mentioned by the SPDCL in its Annual Revenue Requirement (ARR) filing for 2026-27 and order an investigation.
