More than 11.14 lakh households in Maharashtra have completed self-enumeration for Census 2027 through an online facility provided by the government between May 1 and 15, officials said on Monday (May 18, 2026).

The self-enumeration facility was introduced as part of the House-Listing and Housing Census Operations for Census 2027 to enable people to fill in their details online at their convenience through a dedicated web portal.

During the notified period, 12,60,950 households initiated the self-enumeration process, of which 11,14,277 completed it successfully, a release issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Mumbai, said.

Among districts, Pune recorded the highest number of households completing self-enumeration at 1,53,568, followed by Mumbai Suburban with 1,21,068, Thane with 1,16,512, Mumbai city with 61,295 and Nashik with 52,667.

Other districts with significant participation included Nagpur (37,534), Amravati (36,223), Solapur (34,313), Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (34,242) and Jalgaon (31,802).

Households that have completed self-enumeration are required to share their Self Enumeration ID (SE ID), an 11-digit number beginning with the letter ‘H’, with the enumerator during the field visit to facilitate completion of the data collection process.

Officials said that households that did not use the online facility, or were unable to complete the process, need not be concerned, as enumerators will visit all households across the state for physical enumeration from May 16 to June 14.

People have been requested to cooperate with enumerators and provide accurate information during the census exercise, the release added.
