Case registered against R. Sreelekha under POCSO for revealing rape survivors’ identity

The Museum Police have registered a case against former IPS officer and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councillor R. Sreelekha for allegedly revealing the identity of minor rape survivors’ through her YouTube channel, Sasneham Sreelekha.

The case has been filed under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Section 72 (prohibits the printing or publishing of any matter that reveals the identity of a victim of sexual offences) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the episode in question referenced the Kiliroor and Kaviyoor sexual assault cases and allegedly disclosed details that could lead to the identification of the survivors. It also states that the names of their parents were also revealed. The controversial episodes were uploaded in August 2022 and March 2024.
